The human spirit tends toward hope, and a new year holds so much promise. Turning the calendar from one year to the next is not just a time for making resolutions, but for examining and expressing one’s hopes — for the fulfillment of personal goals, for the happiness and safety of loved ones, for progress in our communities and perhaps for social, political or professional advances.
As has become an annual LNP | LancasterOnline Perspective section tradition, we asked local leaders and other Lancaster County residents to share their wishes for the new year. Their answers follow.

As we begin to usher in 2024, I hope for a year of peace and tranquility.
I am excited for tremendous possibilities that we will see emerging as we continue to incorporate the next generation of artificial intelligence in medicine.
From shorter and more effective clinical trials, development of novel designer medications, global epidemic and pandemic monitoring, quicker diagnosis and more effective treatment, we are now in the midst of a sea of change in medicine. My wish is that we have quick and effective regulatory updates that keep up with this rapidly advancing technology wherein it continues to stimulate research while monitoring for its misuse.
