Remembering President Jimmy Carter
December 30, 2024
Plainfield, Indiana
It is with profound sorrow that we learn of the passing of former President Jimmy Carter at the
age of 100. On behalf of the Islamic Society of North America, we extend our heartfelt
condolences to his family and loved ones.
President Carter will be remembered as one of the most ethical presidents in the history of our
nation, known for his unwavering commitment to peace, justice, and humanitarian principles.
His statesmanship and humanitarian efforts positively impacted millions of lives in the United
States and around the world, fostering hope and dignity for countless individuals.
We fondly recall his presence at the 51st ISNA Convention in Detroit, MI, in 2014, where he
delivered a powerful keynote address that inspired thousands within our community. ISNA also
collaborated with the Carter Center on many humanitarian initiatives. In 2006, President Carter
wrote the book Palestine: Peace not Apartheid, in which he argued that Israel's continued control
and construction of settlements have been the primary obstacles to a comprehensive peace
agreement in the Middle East. The Palestinian people have lost one of their strongest and most
influential global advocates. President Carter’s dedication to seeking peace and promoting
human rights remains a testament to his extraordinary legacy.
As we honor his remarkable contributions, we hold his family in our thoughts and prayers. May
he rest in peace.
